The turban is
revert to some civilization that most identical with Islam and of course it’s
easy thing for some people to mention it as far as it commonly known. And the
beard too, it’s the same thing, and definitely can be said as one of the
identity of Muslim according the Sunah (normative) on Islam. In other way, you
should try to search by typing word “muslim” at the engine, it’s almost show
the same things but more various.
The turban is
not an identity (sign: I mean as one of the Syi’ar) on Islam, any way it
isn’t a problem when some people things about terrorism by the look of turban.
But the beard, it was some different thing as a sign of Islam that’s more
general and more important in Syari’at. The beard is one of things that
are meritorious to perform. The Fiqh said (on commonly said by most
Ulama) according to Rasulullah p.b.u.h. words:
خَالِفُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَحْفُوا
الشَّوَارِبَ وَأَوْفُوا اللِّحَى (رواه مسلم)
“Act against the polytheists, trim closely the moustaches and
grow beard.” (Sahih Muslim).
The hadith
although came in many way etc. by Buchari, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasai in many
different forms that show the order to perform about moustaches and beard as a
sign. The sign, as just said, told to make a differential with the other one (mushrikin)
and it should build a different with any other people.
When the little thing
abandoned, it could be not a little thing.
Some people maybe
just see no matter with it and its seen didn’t leave any caution directly on a
person (muslim). But anyway, if we try to take some lesson to the hadits, the
law (command to let the beard grows) as clear as it said by Rasul p.b.u.h., it
have to be done for some reason about the big community of Islam beside another
people. Its included as one of the syi’ar that should be performed by any
muslim. In the Quran the syi’ar was told as:
ذَلِكَ وَمَنْ يُعَظِّمْ شَعَائِرَ
اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِنْ تَقْوَى الْقُلُوبِ
“That (it so).
Whoever honors the symbols of Allah – indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.”
(Q. 22: 32)
As the syi’ar,
when a muslem leave it, and another many muslim could be on the same way as the
improver or the other improved, it shouldn’t longer just a little thing when
commonly performed that’s against the syari’at. After all, it’s a big trouble
that could be hard to be cured.
In other
verse, when any syar’i had been abandoned, beside that Allah mean the syar’i as
the huge “schedule” for getting the better ways (maslaha), Allah command
anyone who believed to perform the Islam as total as demanded:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
ادْخُلُوا فِي السِّلْمِ كَافَّةً وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ
“O you, who
have believed, enter into Islam completely [and perfectly] and do not follow
the footsteps of Satan…” (Q. 2: 208)
